Another busy morning, this is not good. But it should quiet down again after I go to make an amendment to my court case filing. This is what i get for stepping into the world of traffic and cases. I do have waiting for me a read over of my movie script draft which I finished on Saturday! I’m looking forward to looking at it with a view to my rewrite.
The sun is bright this morning. I was out looking around and ran into Mocha just before she removed herself to land her red feet in the spillway to the pool. It think it will be a hot one today.
In examining my lotus ponds I saw an unusual sight: a dragon fly nymph! But not just a nymph but there was a full sized dragon fly hanging just below which renders the nymph dead now as it has been given a rebirth in a more lovely form. “Nymph” comes to us from the Ancient Greek word for maiden. It has come to have a meaning something like Fairy but nymphs were not really fairies. There are many nymphs in the mythology of Greece and so the names for different groups vary. But these maidens can become brides and mothers; they are not immortal like the gods with whom they sometimes are led to consort. And they are linked to the concept of transformation which is what I saw at hand this morning as I looked into the Lotus pond!
I was accompanied by a Vector Control scientist which whom I have had ongoing visits to be sure my lotus ponds have mosquito eating fish. I have had these fish for many years but recently I’ve noticed they’ve vanished which is not good. My suspicions are that the racoons who visit - and do leave muddy footprints on the smaller lotus pond - have gotten to the fish. Really hard to believe as they are so small, but the Vector Control scientist was not surprised. Also, I have an increasingly difficult time seeing the fish as the lilly leaves are quite abundant this time of year so getting a clear eye shot to the water is tricky. Anyway, it’s nice that the Vector Control sends these young men out to bring me a few more mosquito eating fish and to then check again to be sure they are surviving. Today the report was good; clean wate, lots of babies, and no mosquitos which is the whole point, although I like having little fishies in my lotus pond.
I saw the dragon fly hanging from the nymph and pointed it out to him. He was overcome with joy! He had seen many empty nymph bodies but only after the transformation to the dragon fly and long after the dragon fly flew away. So to see the nymph transformation going on was a big moment for this man. I like to give back.
