lazy day
Blue skies, still day, the sun is still hot above me. Getting my water activities out of the way I am enjoying a cozy chair by the pool under my new umbrella! I usually cannot sit here until after 3pm when the sun drops down below one of the neighbor’s oaks. I had three umbrellas there but they are old and don’t work so well anymore; they have been blown over by past year’s winds, one I even found in the pool’s deep end - open with its pole sticking up through the surface of the water. Their tines have been bent and their fabric faded and stiffened with age. Like an elderly umbrella they did not any longer want to bend to catch the sun. It’s taken me quite a while but finally I have purchased and caused to be put into place a new umbrella. And that is why I can sit in this cozy chair shaded as I am from the sun even as it is still coming up.
I’ve taken care of the plants - yesterday was a hot day and I was at the gallery most of the day. They deserve much water and even though most of my greenery is tended by a drip system, I throw some extra water their way just to help out a little more. Things look healthy.
There are many lizards darting about, glued to the vertical wall of a structure. I’ve seen very tiny ones investigating the world. I don’t know much about lizards but it must be the time of year babies are born; there are so many very, very small ones, barely perceptible.
Flying things seem to populate my back yard but I’m not thinking of birds but dragon flies, and enormous butterflies, monarchs I guess. I must have an hidden milkweed lant somewhere. But there are small yellow butterflies and they seem to move in groups of 2 or 3 dancing a strange but transfixing dance as they amble around the spaces in the backyard. Yesterday I saw a yellow finch first in the bamboo skeleton and then drinking from my fountain. Also I caught a glimpse of a hawk flying overhead when I was on my deck.
My spillway is on and Mocha who usually arrives about now is nowhere to be seen. But my attention is caught by the many little bubbles racing away from the spillway wall as they are born from the falling water as it meets the pool proper.
Oh I have created a wonderful spot. A dab of Monet to inspire my writing. Once the neighbor finishes his Walmart project and the heat diminishes, I want to set up so I can paint out here as well. I do drips and drabs but nothing serious yet. Something I look forward to. And soon there will be pomegranate flowers on my tree. Many wonderful things are coming but they are not here yet and so I am enjoying the day. My stomach is growling. I know what that means….
